A haven for cigars and cocktails heads to Resorts World, the new resort on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip. Eight Lounge opens this fall with hand-rolled cigars and spirits in a stylish and contemporary setting In the District, the 70,000-square-foot shopping esplanade that stretches along Las Vegas Boulevard
John Pettei and Clique Hospitality bring the cigar bar, which plans to offer more than 150 cigars, showcased in a custom-built walk-in humidor. Eight Lounge specializes in limited-edition cigars for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to smoke these rare puros.
“We’re shredding the clichés and stigmas associated with cigars — the old man in the smoky room — and bringing sophistication and sexiness back,” Pettei says.
Eight takes its name from the lucky number in Chinese culture. The Cantonese word for eight, which is pronounced “ba,” sounds similar to another word that means prosper or wealth. It can also mean infinite in Eastern Asia. The lounge incorporates the number throughout the venue, even dividing the space into eight rooms with deep tufted couches and dark wood trimming for a masculine touch. A bar-length chandelier and subtle pops of color give a feminine feel for balance. A filtration system refreshes air every four minutes to keep air clean, fresh, and constantly flowing.
Eight’s cocktail program includes drinks to pair with cigars. The bartenders double as cigar sommeliers to help guide customers to different tobacco profiles and which spirit complements the cigar. Members can stow spirits and cigars in temperature-controlled lockers.
The cigar bar also plans to have a 2,300-square-foot outdoor patio overlooking the Strip with a fireplace and a misting and heating trellis.
