While the holidays look different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic and the state reducing capacity at restaurants and bars to 25 percent, local venues found a way to celebrate with pop-up cocktail experiences and bar crawls. Sit at fire pits and sip a cocktail, ice skate, see aliens in a winter “wanderland,” go on a bar crawl, and so much more to get in the festive spirit.

A bar crawl from Circa, the Golden Gate Casino, and the D Las Vegas runs through December 27 and features five holiday cocktails, and with the purchase of tickets, one free night stay at the D. Tickets, available at the concierge desk at Circa on the first floor of the lobby or online, are $50 and include drinks at Vegas Vickie’s Bar at Circa, Circa Bar on the Fremont Street Experience, Bar Prohibition at the Golden Gate, Bar Canada at the D, and Vue Bar at the D.

Commonwealth will transform for the holidays, offering fresh roasted chestnuts, a DJ on the rooftop, complimentary hand warmers, and seasonal cocktails, including the Thyme With G-Ma, made with Balsamo, honey, lemon, apple bitters, and soda garnished with apple rings and fresh thyme and Mistletoe-Politan, a combination of gin, green chartreuse, cassis, lemon, pomegranate, and angostura, garnished with rosemary. The Laundry Room will feature a live pianist playing holiday classics nightly. Park on Fremont will become Santa’s Workshop with ornate decorations and holiday cocktails including the Rye Not A Mule?, made with Bulleit Rye whiskey, maple syrup, lemon juice, cardamon bitters, and a poached apple and Nightmare on Xmas, a mulled sour made with barrel aged cherry sour, maple syrup, cinnamon, star anise, cloves, cardamon, and sliced orange. Tivoli Village has Santa Baby for the holidays. The pop-up bar experience featuring holiday-themed cocktails, music, and Christmas festivities remains open through Wednesday, December 23, for guests ages 21 and older from 6 p.m. to midnight daily. Aside from a roster of rotating beers, wine, spirits, mixers, and holiday cocktails served in stocking and ornament-shaped glasses, the pop-up also boasts wall-to-wall Christmas décor and offers festive ornament making for customers while they sip on beverages. Customers can select a time slot in advance for one of 34 tickets per hour that go for $5.50 each online.

4. Merry Crimson at Red Rock Resort

At Red Rock Resort, Merry Crimson takes over Crimson at Sunset for the holidays. The indoor/outdoor experience every Thursday through Sunday starting at 5 p.m. features a candy cane swing set, a giant Santa Claus, a fireplace for a real life elf on the shelf, and a Moët Champagne vending machine with proceeds benefitting Opportunity Village. The outdoor, poolside terrace features a display of blow up Santa and his reindeer landing on the Crimson roof. Customers can request seating by fire pits or heated cabanas and order a S’mores kit for roasting. The venue also features naughty and nice cocktails such as the Drink Up Grinches or Drunken Cocoa Bomb on the naughty side or the jingle and Ready to Mingle or Gingerbread Mule on the nice menu. Customers can see Balanceville, the 30-foot intergalactic art sleigh; an illuminated tree-lined village filled with extraterrestrial surprises; a festive path of snow globes; pop-up retailers Kappa Toys and Wild Muse Boutique; sweets by Emack & Bolio’s; and more. The Winter Beast, an outdoor pop-up eatery, features socially distanced snow globes, a special holiday menu form chefTodd English, and wintry cocktails. The experience ends with a holiday photo-op inside Henry Chang’s Mad Max-esque kinetic art car, “Mister Fusion,” decked-out with Area15’s alien friends.

7. The Ice Rink at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

Aside from rooftop ice-skating on more than 4,200 square feet of real ice, the venue offers S’mores by the fire, snow showers, classic holiday movies, adult renditions of seasonal culinary classics, and views of the Strip. The ice rink has cocktails including the Egg Noggy Nog, Campfire Delight, Rebel without a Claus, Scrooged, White Elephant Game, and The Griswold, as well as dishes such as grilled cheese and tomato soup, turkey potpie, loaded potato skins, chicken nachos, sliders, crispy chicken tenders, warm pretzel rolls, and spicy green bean fries. Aria’s Winter Wonderland features a 15-foot high custom-designed Sugar Palace made out of edible ingredients as well as holiday gift ideas made by the Aria patisserie team, including chocolate coffee cups, candied oranges dipped in chocolate, white chocolate and peppermint popcorn, sugar cookies, and milk chocolate cranberries. The Winter Wonderland retail area will be open Monday to Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. and Friday to Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. through Tuesday, January 5. Additionally, the Sugar Palace’s backyard provides a physically distanced seating area for food and drink.
