Affluent Southern Highlands sits southwest of the Las Vegas Strip, a narrow strip of land in the foothills of the Spring Mountains, bounded by I-15 on the west, Jones Boulevard to the east, and Cactus Avenue to the north. The relatively new master planned community started in 1997 when developers first started constructing homes. Now it’s home to singer Toni Braxton, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and coach Jon Gruden, former baseball player Reggie Jackson, and boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. As in most young communities, restaurants are slow to open, especially local spots. Now a few line Southern Highland Parkway, offering breakfast in pajamas, fried chicken, Asian fare, Italian cuisine, Mexican dishes, and more. Here’s a look at eight.

The Italian-born Luciano Pellegrini won Best Chef Southwest from the James Beard Foundation in 2004 while he was the executive chef at the Venetian’s Valentino, which closed in 2013. Now he has Heavenly Pies in Southern Highlands with pizzas, such as a breakfast version; green with pesto sauce, mozzarella, asparagus, rapini, spinach, zucchini, and roasted garlic; and namesake Heavenly with black truffle tomato, brie cheese, porcini mushrooms, roasted garlic, speck, and escarole.
