Following the state-wide easing of restrictions on dine-in restaurants in Nevada on May 9, the close knit community surrounding Henderson’s Water Street is testing public demand and learning new ways to serve and stay safe.

Slowly reopening dining rooms and public areas, diners should check with each restaurant before making a special trip, but this list of 11 local favorites provides a diverse collection of menus to initially satisfy many lockdown cravings.

A local landmark, chef Flemming Pedersen’s bakery is now open Tuesday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for walk-up customers and pre-ordered pickup. Limiting the number of people in the store, the bakery created a new entrance at the rear of the building to aid social distancing. Call 702-566-6500 for details, or to place special orders.

Juan’s Flaming Fajita’s & Cantina has updated its social distancing rules, closing its bar area, opening up the patio and welcoming dine-in customers. Orders to go and reservations indoors can only be made via phone at 702-476-4647, with no more walk ins. Using only plastic utensils and paper menus, the very popular destination has also placed a time limit of an hour and 15 minutes for lunch and an hour and a half for dinner to accommodate all of its returning admirers.

Lovelady Brewing

Customers can now pickup Lovelady Brewing growlers and crowlers, Tuesday to Friday from 2 to 7 p.m, and noon to 5 p.m on Saturday and Sunday. Place an order online, or call 702-564-3030 to alert the safety-conscious staff you are waiting outside and they will bring the refreshments to the car.

Working on plans to revive its in-house dining, the Runnin’ Rebels-inspired sports bar is open for delivery and curbside pickup Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Serving beer and wine to-go, plus a spin on a pub-grub menu, try the Hardway 8 burger with bacon, sunny-side egg, caramelized red onions, aged cheddar, and brandy mayo-ketchup.

Mojave Brewing Co.

While the taproom remains closes, Mojave Brewing Co. is advising fans to check social media for a future reopening date. During the hiatus, the small batch beer experts are creating growlers, howlers and stovepipe cans for curbside pickup, available daily from 3 to 7 p.m.

Opening half of its 122 seats, Pacific Diner is also still open for takeout and delivery from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., plus accepting phone reservations for dine-in service at 702-330-0180. Looking into creating menus that can be read on diner’s phones and capping each table at a maximum of five seats, the diner is working hard to accommodate customers ready to return to its casual American menu of breakfast and lunch specials.

Purple Penguin has relaunched its walk-up window, ready to serve more than 40 flavors of snocones, ice cream, plus Dole Whip for lines of less than 10 customers out front. Preferring credit cards with a chip for payment, fans can chill down daily from noon to 8 p.m., closing at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
