<p>A rare Japanese restaurant opens in the neighborhood</p> <p id="gYUooW">Now finally open at the Oso Blanca Pavilions, local favorites <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/ohjah-japanese-steakhouse">Ohjah Japanese Steakhouse</a> has constructed an uncommon Asian-dining destination in Centennial Hills, serving a full sushi and dinner menu, plus its very popular hibachi grill dishes.</p>
<p id="kDnYLi">During the 28 months <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/2018/8/21/17762560/ohjah-japanese-steakhouse-expands-centennial">since first revealed</a> it was headed to the intersection of Oso Blanca Road and Durango Drive, the 11-year-old local chain found time to debut its sixth local expansion in the southwest at 7315 S. Rainbow Boulevard.</p>
<p id="rhaAos">Joining Marco’s Pizza, Capriotti’s, and <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/2020/7/23/21334965/the-cereal-killerz-kitchen-opening-soon-centennial">newcomers Cereal Killerz Kitchen</a> in Centennial, the built-from-scratch, 7,300-square-foot stand-alone steakhouse hides an attractive interior behind its boxy, nondescript exterior.</p>
<p id="re7qn8">Diners can opt to sit at the sushi bar, at individual tables, or surrounding the grill tables facing the family-friendly energetic presentations created by teppanyaki chefs.</p>
<p id="j3a73N">Also open for takeout and delivery via third-party vendors, the lengthy menu includes hibachi combination deals featuring an entree, rice, and vegetables, and the opportunity to upgrade with Kobe beef, halibut, lobster tail and live seafood. The house signature rolls, sashimi, and nigiri pieces can also be ordered as dinner specials, or arrive chosen by the sushi chef and served on the Ohjah boat.</p>
<p id="AZ1Zm3">Other selections include tempura, karaage chicken, teriyaki, and katsu dishes, beef short ribs, fried rice, bowls of udon noodles, and a range of Thai curries.</p>

<p>Every day is a little different at the test kitchen, which lets chefs offer their dishes in food stalls at Fergusons Downtown</p> <p id="zuIKkb">Every week at <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/vegas-test-kitchen">Vegas Test Kitchen</a> features a different group of pop-up restaurants and chef residencies on the weekends. Jolene Mannina’s new test kitchen inside the former <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/chow">Chow</a> space now owned by <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/fergusons-downtown">Fergusons Downtown</a> gives chefs a chance to try out their fare with customers before committing to opening their own restaurants. </p>
<p id="hs7Wj0">Take chef Lanny Chin, for example. He has a three-month residency with Slurp Society with a menu of tankatsu ramen, miso ramen, and maze-men, as well as his Chin family egg rolls, sticky pork belly, and chili garlic wontons. Chin, who won on <em>Chopped</em>, was the chef de cuisine for <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/the-slanted-door">The Slanted Door</a> at the <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/the-forum-shops">Forum Shops at Caesars</a> and <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/greene-st-kitchen">Greene St. Kitchen</a> at the Palms, and more. He’s spent his pandemic doing pop-up dinners at <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/dw-bistro">DW Bistro</a> and wants to test out his dishes with a wider audience before deciding to open his own restaurant. Diners can order his dishes for takeout or dine in from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays. </p>
<p id="LMtoSi">Chefs Roy Ellamar of <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/20809/harvest-by-roy-ellamar">Harvest</a> at the Bellagio and Chris Conlon of <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/40377/piero-s-italian-cuisine-2">Piero’s Italian Cuisine</a> plan to hold their own pop-ups in the coming months. Both plan to open their own venues at <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/platform-one">Platform One</a> at <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/uncommons">UnCommons</a>, Las Vegas’ first neighborhood food hall, in early 2022. </p>
<p id="y5fOcO">Vegas Test Kitchen also features food stalls where chefs can serve their dishes. Phyto’s Vegan Eats arrives on January 2 with vegan hot dogs, while Mariana Alvarado tests out her Masazul, which has been making the rounds at local farmers markets, on January 9 and 23. Alvarado plans to serve tetelas, triangular masa pockets filled with meat or vegan options such as mole and lions with lion’s mane mushrooms and roasted cauliflower, beef brisket tinga and tomatillo crema, roasted poblano pepper and roasted corn, or even crickets.</p>
<p id="CptuMV">Other vendors include Nina Manchev of <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/forte-tapas">Forte Tapas</a>, who is serving baniza, a traditional Bulgarian street food with a flaky crust layered with imported European cheeses. </p>
<p id="XpnSnR"><a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/47401/rooster-boy-cafe">Rooster Boy Cafe</a>’s Sonia El-Nawal features her New York-style bagels at Bodega Bagel, which also offers house-made gravlax, white fish salad, and a variety of schmears (including a vegan option).</p>
<p id="VVfubX">Pastry chef Andrea McLean brings Pop N Pies with pies by the slice. Recent pies include peanut butter chocolate, apple crumble, and blueberry crumble. McLean works as a pastry sous chef for <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/36254/l-atelier-de-joel-robuchon">L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon</a> and formerly worked at Thomas Keller’s <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/bouchon">Bouchon</a>. </p>
<p id="fBorbE">Sliced from chef Sung Park, previously the executive chef of <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/sake-rok">Sake Rok</a>, serves sushi, while Yukon Pizza from Alex White features sourdough wood-fired pizza that is made with 120-year-old family heirloom starter. Yukon has a sourdough Margherita, Neapolitan pepperoni, and a vegan option, among others. </p>
<p id="U9KeRZ">Every day is a little different, with some vendors serving only on certain days and others dishing all the time. New vendors plan to slot in all the time. Of course the best way to keep in the know is to sign up for the venue’s newsletter. </p>
<p id="ufLC90">On Saturday and Sunday nights open, Mannina plans to host special events, rent out the space for private events, and more. </p>

<p>The ode to the city’s casino greats sits on the 60th floor of the resort with killer views of the Strip</p> <p id="9QOqX4">Downtown’s new <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/circa">Circa</a> continues to reveal its new outlets with <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/legacy-club">Legacy Club</a>, the swanky lounge at the top of its 458-foot tower opening on December 28. The lounge features stunning views of Las Vegas along with fire pits to keep customers warm on the outdoor terrace. </p>
<p id="qtqIzb">Customers take a dedicated elevator to the 60th floor to reach the Legacy Club, an ode to many of Vegas’ founding pioneers and icons. At the entrance, the lounge features 11 custom metal busts of Jackie Gaughan, best known for his ownership of the El Cortez; Benny Binion, who opened Binion’s Horseshoe in Downtown Las Vegas; Jay Sarno, who founded <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/caesars-palace">Caesars Palace</a> and <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/circus-circus-hotel-casino">Circus Circus</a>; Kirk Kerkorian, who opened the International Hotel in 1969, the <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/mgm-grand">MGM Grand</a> Hotel in 1973, and the MGM Grand in 1993; Sam Boyd, who invested in the Sahara, became general manager and partner at The Mint in Downtown Las Vegas, opened the California in 1975, and co-founded Boyd Gaming; Steve Wynn, who opened the <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/golden-nugget">Golden Nugget</a>, the Mirage, Treasure Island, the Bellagio, and <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/wynn-las-vegas">Wynn Las Vegas</a>; William Bennett, who established Circus Circus Enterprises and owned the Sahara; Bob Stupak, who opened Bob Stupak’s Vegas World; Frank Fertitta of Station Casinos fame; Barron Hilton, who ran the International and the Flamingo; and Howard Hughes, who owned the Dunes, the Sands, Frontier, Silver Slipper, Castaways, and Landmark. </p>
<p id="Q96YGW">Another ode to the city’s history inside the lounge showcases black-and-white photos portraying each of the legends, as well as Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Oscar Goodman. The lounge also features a display of 1,000 ounces of pure gold. A ticker atop the display of Circa-branded gold bars shows their combined value based on the current price of gold.</p>

<p id="od5ng2">The 8,400-square-foot lounge features couches in the main lounge, fire pits and banquettes on the outdoor terrace, and stools at the centerpiece bar.</p>
<p id="HwjejK">Customers can order Vegas twists on classic drinks, such as the Desert Sunset Martini, a spin on the breakfast martini, invented by Salvatore Calabrese. The typical orange marmalade has been replaced with a white peach puree. A Sunset Spritz, a riff on the Aperol Spritz, comes with Schofferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen. The namesake Legacy Club cocktail, a variation on the Clover Club, uses Absolut Elyx and a prickly pear syrup. And the Nevadan is a Manhattan that uses Frey Ranch Rye, a rye whiskey distilled in Northern Nevada and aged for five years. . </p>
<p id="U3i74N">The lounge offers a sunset package for $75 per person that includes outdoor fire pit seating for two to 12 people, two specialty cocktails, a Champagne toast at sunset, and views of the skyline. <p>The former chef behind Yonaka Modern Japanese and Purple Potato opens a new restaurant with his crispy Brussels sprouts, sashimi, and robatayaki</p> <p id="afzxdz">The chef behind local favorite <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/yonaka-modern-japanese">Yonaka Modern Japanese</a><strong> </strong>and Henderson casual restaurant <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/26624/purple-potato-by-yonaka">Purple Potato</a> revealed his latest Asian fusion restaurant, self-described as “honest, gutsy, and often unexpected.” Ramir DeCastro’s <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/robata-en">Robata En</a> replaces the shuttered 24-hour Vietnamese and <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/2019/8/7/20757958/lees-noodle-house-opens-chinatown">Chinese-inspired Lee’s Noodle House</a> at Spring Mountain Road’s Shan Tau Square, close to Arville Street and a few steps from Bank Atcharawan’s <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/2019/1/31/18204679/lamaii-bank-atchawaran-now-open-chinatown-las-vegas">Thai-focused Lamaii</a>.</p>
<p id="llyzLj">“At Robata En, we believe in making everyday eating a little bit extraordinary. We’re one part local and one part global,” DeCastro says. He changes the menu with the seasons, taking inspiration from fine dining that’s fun dining. “[We] like to make food you can share, food you can talk about, food you’ll want more of, and food you’ll come back for.”</p>
<p id="IlqsBY">DeCastro brings back some Yonaka favorites such as crispy Brussels sprouts, miso buttered corn, and avocado nigiri. Other favorites include shishito peppers grilled with Binchotan charcoal, Jidori chicken served with pickled veggies and house made bread, yuzu tea brined ribs, and miso black cod. </p>
<p id="hO36w7">Robatayaki dishes, a sashimi platter, and two omakase menus — one for dine-in service and a second to go — round out the menu. The dine-in version features eight to 10 courses spanning classics and premium dishes, while the $99 seven-course to-go version for two people comes with an appetizer, sashimi salad, sushi, sashimi, a cold dish, a warm dish, and dessert, served with rice and soup. The restaurant also features a range of Scotch and Japanese, and American whiskies behind the bar.</p>

<p>The new restaurant offers boba teas, sushi rolls, and pad kra pow</p> <p id="68vFkG">Consider <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/lamoon">Lamoon</a> a sister restaurant to <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/lamaii">Lamaii</a>, the Thai restaurant from Bank Atchawaran. The Asian restaurant in Chinatown from Bon Atchawaran, Bank’s older brother, features Thai food from Bon’s wife Bia Hawang and Japanese cuisine from Jay Boonparsook.</p>
<p id="g6BSOw">Bon worked with Bank at <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/1319/chada-thai-wine">Chada Thai</a>, <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/chada-street">Chada Street</a>, and Lamaii before opening Lamoon. Boonparsook worked at BarMasa at Aria and other local Japanese restaurants before coming to Lamoon. Hawang worked at Lamaii, where she managed the bar, and spent years working at <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/catch">Catch</a>, <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/sage">Sage</a>, and <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/3663/jean-georges-steakhouse">Jean Georges Steakhouse</a> at Aria. </p>
<p id="jsjInx">Diners can scan in a QR code on their phones to order dishes such as coco tom yum with shrimp, soft tofu with mixed vegetables in a clear vegan broth, a taro and chestnut crispy stick, crispy wings with yuzu honey or spicy tom yum, pad kra pow with ground chicken or pork, vegan garlic fried rice, and yellow curry with chicken. For sushi rolls, find the Take Me Out with seared crab, eel, salmon, scallop, and tuna; the Roar with tuna, yellowtail salmon, scallop, and shrimp; Luna mushroom topped with spicy tuna, ikura, and crab meat with mango sauce; and the Girl Gone Wild with shrimp tempura wrapped with eel and eel sauce. </p>
<p id="BGSxaS">For dessert, customers can order Khanom Krok, a Thai coconut pudding or pung pung Nutella.</p>
<p id="lVEA7R">Drinks include the Meme with black sugar and milk with mini boba, the Caramel Way with caramel and chocolate with chocolate flakes, a Pink Lady with Sala cider and fresh milk topped with red bean, and strawberry fresh cream.</p>

<p>The Great Greek opens with lamb chops and souvlaki</p> <p id="7i0OcG">A busy stretch of St. Rose Parkway lands a new Greek restaurant today when the Great Greek Mediterranean Grill opens. The chain expands its footprint in Nevada with a third location for gyros and lamb, steak and chicken souvlaki platters. </p>
<p id="HiTrrU">Diners can order hummus, tzatziki, melitzanosalata eggplant dip, and tirokafteri, a spicy roasted red pepper dip, as well as made-to-order feta fries. A falafel plate comes with six chickpea fritters with yogurt mint sauce while a mezze plate features dolmades, falafel, spanikopita, and hummus.</p>
<p id="MxIyCG">For dessert, the restaurant features baklava, with a version in ice cream, as well as rice pudding. </p>
<p id="Z4s6Ep">The restaurant also offers kids’ meals. </p>
<p id="klGT65">Through December 20, the restaurant has specials including lamb chops with potatoes, and a portion of the weekend proceeds to the <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/nipton-loop-cyclists">Nipton Loop cyclists Go Fund Me campaign</a> raising money for the families of the five cyclists killed outside Las Vegas on December 10 when an impaired driver drove through the group. </p>

<p>Daikon Vegan Sushi & More brings vegan entrees, pressed juices, and smoothies, along with sushi, of course</p> <p id="UvyUHZ">A restaurant specializing in 100 percent vegan sushi and entrees partially opens on the westside. Colorado chef Mindy Lim brings <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/daikon-vegan-sushi-more">Daikon Vegan Sushi & More</a>, taking over a 1,190-square-foot space at the Whole Foods Marketplace, close to the intersection with Tenaya Way. Consider the menu plant-based Asian fusion fast-food, with a rooster of dishes such as sushi, vegan entrees, pressed juices, and smoothies. For now, Daikon only offers takeout and delivery. </p>
<p id="WNAdEq">Chef Lim owned Boulder, Colorado’s My Ramen & Izakaya, specializing in ramen, rice bowls, stir-fry noodles, and Japanese small plate creations, plus its own spin on juices and smoothies.</p>
<p id="4G5Wlh">Daikon’s menu ranges from miso soup and stuffed jalapeño peppers to tempura-fired king oyster mushrooms substituting for calamari among the appetizers.</p>
<p id="DKEBr7">Sushi choices include pickled vegetables, spicy tofu, and avocado, roasted yellow bell pepper nigiri, roe “pockets” made from carrot juice and algae, while the entrees include tempura fried gluten chunks prepared as sesame chicken and a tonkatsu dish of panko-fried tofu skin.</p>

<p>Mediterranean chicken and a skinny mushroom melt arrive</p> <p id="Wq2ma5"><a href="https://vegas.eater.com/venue/potbelly-sandwich-shop">Potbelly Sandwich Shop</a> opens the first of 10 local outlets today, bringing Mediterranean chicken, the PB&J, a pizza variant, the turkey, ham and bacon Clubby, and a skinny mushroom melt to Henderson. The restaurant at the <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/2020/6/3/21276237/texas-roadhouse-restaurant-steakhouse-opening-soon-henderson">Shoppes on the Parkway</a> development sits near St. Rose Parkway and Amigo Street. The first 100 people to visit Potbelly Henderson will receive a free sandwich. After the first 100 visitors, all customers will receive a free cookie with their purchase for the first week.</p>
<p id="CAgl5O">Franchiser Gregg Kocenko already has Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Qdoba Mexican Eats locations, and plans to open <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/2019/9/17/20869681/jet-tila-three-dragon-tiger-noodle-co-locations">Dragon Tiger Noodle Co.</a> with chef Jet Tila. Dragon Tiger is also scheduled for Spring Valley’s <a href="https://vegas.eater.com/2019/9/17/20869681/jet-tila-three-dragon-tiger-noodle-co-locations">Rainbow Commons retail center</a> and Southern Highlands, as well as the same strip mall as Potbelly. </p>
<p id="pj29Nv">Nevada was one of the few states the Potbelly Sandwich Shop had yet to conquer, but fans of its hot submarine sandwich menu will have plenty of locations to visit.</p>
<p id="uoElL4">Created in Chicago in 1977 and now expanded to more than 450 locations. Traditionally, each shop places an antique, potbelly stove among its decor.</p>
